Let \(G\) be a group. We recall that a subgroup \(H\) of \(G\) is said to be pronormal in \(G\) if and only if, for all \(g \in G\), the subgroups \(H\) and \(H^g\) are conjugate in \(\langle H,H^g\rangle\). The authors consider the groups \(E_6(q)\) and \(^2E_6(q)\), where \(q\) is a prime power, and they classify all possibilities where all subgroups of odd index of these groups are pronormal. With this contribution they complete the classification of finite simple groups of exceptional Lie type where all subgroups of odd index are pronormal. In classical Lie type, the cases \(\mathrm{PSL}_n(q)\) and \(\mathrm{PSU}_n(q)\) are still open if \(q\) is odd and \(n\) is not a power of \(2\). In addition to background on their general question and proofs of their results, the authors also give examples for subgroups of odd index (in \(E_6(q)\) and \(^2E_6(q)\)) that are not pronormal.
