The authors present a few results on split ideal extensions of algebras, which they call ``Dorroh extensions''. For example, they make explicit how modules over a split ideal extension \(A \ltimes I\) can be described in terms of module structures over \(A\), over \(I\) and compatibilities between these. Recall that split ideal extensions are ideal extensions in the sense of [\textit{C. J. Everett}, Am. J. Math. 64, 363--370 (1942; Zbl 0060.07601)] which additionally split (see also [\textit{S. MacLane}, Ill. J. Math. 2, 316--345 (1958; Zbl 0081.03303); \textit{M. Petrich}, Acta Math. Hung. 45, 263--283 (1985; Zbl 0582.16011)]). Then, the authors prove the categorical duals of the previous results, in the coalgebraic setting. Finally, they relate the aforementioned algebra and coalgebra extensions by taking advantage of the finite dual construction of, for example, [\textit{J. A. Anquela} et al., Commun. Algebra 22, No. 12, 4693--4716 (1994; Zbl 0815.16023)]. For the sake of precision, what the authors call ``finite dual coalgebra'' is, in fact, the locally finite part of the finite dual coalgebra (see Theorem 2.6 in [loc. cit.]). Reviewer's remarks: I found the terminology used by the authors not quite standard (for instance, the use of the term ``\(A\)-algebra'' to refer to what shall be called an ``\(A\)-ring'' or the use of ``Dorroh extension'' instead of ``split ideal extension''). Moreover, none of the classical references above is mentioned in the paper.
