In the present paper the author studies 1-parameter families in the space \(\mathcal{M}^G_1\) of \(G\)-invariant, unit volume metrics on a given compact, connected, almost-effective homogeneous space \(M = G/H\). The interest is on diverging sequences, i.e., that are not contained in any compact subset of \(\mathcal{M}^G_1\), and proves some structure results for those which have bounded curvature. He also relates the results to an algebraic version of collapse. The main theorems are the following: 1. Let \(M = G/H\) be a compact, connected homogenous space. If there exists a diverging sequence \((g(n)) \subset \mathcal{M}^G_1\) with bounded curvature, i.e., with \(|\mathrm{sec}(g(n))| \le C\) for some constant \(C > 0\), then there exists an intermediate closed subgroup \(H\subsetneq K \subset G\) such that the quotient \(K/H\) is a torus. 2. Let \(M = G/H\) be a compact, connected homogenous space and let \(\epsilon > 0\). Assume that there exists a diverging sequence \((g(n)) \subset (\mathcal{M}^G_1)_\epsilon\) with bounded curvature and let \(K\) be the intermediate closed subgroup determined by \((g(n))\) as in Theorem 1. Then, there exists a second intermediate closed subgroup \(K\subsetneq K \subset G\) such that the quotient \(K/H\) is not a torus.
