Let \(W(m,n;\underline{\psi})\) denote the set of \(\psi_1,\dots,\psi_n\)-approximable points in \(\mathbb R^{mn}\). The classical Khintchine-Groshev (dichotomic) theorem assumes a monotonicity condition on the approximating functions \(\psi_i\). Removing the monotonicity from the Khintchine-Groshev theorem is attributed to different authors for different cases of \(m\) and \(n\). It cannot be removed for \(m=n=1\) as \textit{R. J. Duffin} and \textit{A. C. Schaeffer} [Duke Math. J. 8, 243--255 (1941; Zbl 0025.11002; JFM 67.0145.03)] provided a counterexample. The authors deal with the only remaining case \(m=2\) and thereby remove all unnecessary conditions from the Khintchine-Groshev theorem. In fact, by adapting the arguments by \textit{V. Beresnevich} and \textit{S. Velani} [Int. Math. Res. Not. 2010, No. 1, 69--86 (2010; Zbl 1241.11086)] they establish in Theorem 1 that, for any \(m>1\) and \(n \geq 1\), the set \(W(m,n;\underline{\psi})\) has full Lebesgue \(mn\)-dimensional measure, provided the approximating functions \(\psi_i:\mathbb N \to \mathbb R^+\) are such that \[ \sum_{q=1}^\infty q^{m-1}\psi_1(q)\cdots\psi_n(q)=\infty \] As usual, the corresponding convergence case follows from the application of the Borel-Cantelli lemma and is free from any assumptions on the choices of \(m\), \(n\) and the approximating functions.
