The paper deals with the periodic dispersive equations of the form \(\partial_t u +\partial_x^5 u +P_1(u)\partial_x u+ P_1(u)\partial_x u \partial_x u=0\), where \(P_1\) and \(P_2\) are polynomials. The authors establish several results concerning the well-posedness of the Cauchy problems for these equations in the Sobolev spaces \(H^s\). Particularly, they prove (by constructing associated counter examples) that \(s=1\) is sharp for the well-posedness in the general case as well as in the case \(P_1\equiv 0\); on the other hand, \(s=1/2\) is sharp in the case \(P_2\equiv 0\). The proof are based on estimates for the constants in the associated Strichartz inequalities also established in the paper.
