The paper is a sequel of [\textit{W. D. Neumann} and \textit{J. Wahl}, Geom. Topol. 9, 699--755 (2005; Zbl 1087.32017)] where the notion of complete intersection singularities of splice type was introduced and studied. Now the authors prove that a normal singularity with homology sphere link is of splice type if and only if some naturally occurring knots in the singularity link are themselves links of hypersurface sections of the singular point and verify their Casson Invariant Conjecture [\textit{W. D. Neumann} an \textit{J. Wahl}, Comment. Math. Helv. 65, 58--78 (1990; Zbl 0704.57007)] for complete intersection singularities of the splice type for which the nodes of splice diagram are in a line. Then they formulate and discuss a more general Milnor Fiber Conjecture which implies the Casson Invariant Conjecture and verify the former for surfaces with equations of the form \(z^n = f(x,y)\).
