Camassa-Holm (CH) type equations appear in the literature with various perspectives. In this paper, modified CH equation is considered and the authors work on the smooth periodic traveling wave solutions. Existence of such solutions with a large fixed period and their orbital instability are examined. Comparing the results appearing in the literature and modified CH, the authors tell that since modified CH does not have Lax formalism, most of the approaches used for CH do not work. On the other hand, assuming that periodic traveling wave has mean zero, they could use nonlinear stability studies done for periodic traveling wave solutions of Korteweg-de Vries equation. For proving orbital instability, the most common approach proposed by Grillakis, Shatah and Strauss is used.
