The paper describes and analyzes several variational formulations for direct time harmonic scattering problems in three dimensional waveguide. Conditions for the existence and uniqueness of solutions are discussed for both Dirichlet and Neumann problems. The authors also give two geometric conditions for an obstacle which ensure the existence and uniqueness of the solution for Dirichlet problems.
