On dual quermassintegrals of mixed intersection bodies (Q2465150): Difference between revisions

The \(i\)th dual quermassintegral of a star body \(K\) in \({\mathbb R}^n\) is defined as \[ \widetilde W_i(K) :=\frac{1}{n} \int_{S^{n-1}} \rho(K,u)^{n-i}\,dS(u), \] \(0\leq i\leq n-1\), where \(\rho(K,\cdot)\) is the radial function of \(K\). The \(i\)th intersection body \(I_i(K)\) \((0\leq i\leq n\)) is defined by its radial function \(\rho(I_iK,u)= \widetilde w_i(K\cap u^\perp)\), where \(\widetilde w_i\) is the \(i\)th dual quermassintegral in \(u^\perp\). The authors prove the inequalities \[ \widetilde W_{i+1}(K)^{n-i} \leq\left(\frac{\omega_n^{n-1-i}}{\omega_{n-1}^{n-i}}\right) \widetilde W_i(I_iK) \leq \omega_n\widetilde W_i(K)^{n-i-1} \] (\(\omega_n\) is the volume of the \(n\)-dimensional unit ball). This is `dual' to a conjectured, but still unproved, inequality about quermassintegrals of projection bodies. The proof combines various known inequalities, among them the Busemann intersection inequality.
