High-order convergence of vanishing viscosity approximations to scalar hyperbolic conservation laws in one space dimension is considered in the paper. It is proved that under suitable assumptions, in the region where the solution is smooth, the viscous solution admit an expression in powers of the viscosity parameter \(\varepsilon\). This allows an extrapolation procedure that yields high order approximation to the non-viscous limit as \(\varepsilon \to 0\). Numerical experiments are also presented.
