The paper studies the bifurcations of two scalar delay differential equations (DDEs) when varying the delay. Its approach is to discretize the DDE with the explicit Euler discretization, transforming the DDE into a high-dimensional map. The authors find subcritical Hopf bifurcations, stable limit cycles, symmetry breaking bifurcations, period doubling and chaotic behavior. Alternative numerical algorithms that can perform most tasks discussed in this paper efficiently are described in the paper of \textit{D. Roose, T. Luzyanina, K. Engelborghs} and \textit{W. Michiels} [S.-J. Niculescu (ed.) et al., Advances in time-delay systems. Lecture Notes in Computational Science and Engineering. 38, 167--181 (2004; Zbl 1065.34077)].
