On a compact manifold admitting a spin structure and a Riemannian metric, the authors consider the square of the smallest eigenvalue of the Dirac operator, and establish a relationship with the \(\tau\)-invariant. They show that a particular value of this invariant defines a spin-structure on ``the'' non-trivial spin-structure on the torus \(T^2\). Contents include: an introduction; the spin-conformal moduli space of \(T^2\); Main results; Some preliminaries; Proof of the main results; and a bibliography of twenty-eight items.
