Let \(\Omega\subset\mathbb R^N\) be a bounded open domain with smooth boundary. The authors study the nonlinear elliptic system \(-\Delta u=F_u(x,u,v)\), \(-\Delta v=F_v(x,u,v)\) in \(\Omega\), under the Dirichlet boundary conditions \(u=v=0\) on \(\partial\Omega\), where \(F\) is a smooth nonlinearity with subcritical growth. In this paper the authors establish several existence and multiplicity results in terms of a related weighted eigenvalue problem. The framework is variational and the arguments rely on the critical point theory, including Morse's theory. There are also used deformation arguments, linking techniques, and a compactness condition which is due to Cerami.
