This paper is devoted to the proof of the following theorem: Let \(M\) be an \(n\)-dimensional connected Stein manifold or a domain in \(\mathbb C^n\). If \(G = \text{Aut}(M)\) is isomorphic (as topological group) to the automorphism group \(\text{Aut}(\Delta^n)\) of the polydisc \(\Delta^n \subset \mathbb C^n\), then \(M\) is biholomorphic to \(\Delta^n\). To obtain the result, the authors start observing that from the hypotheses and a well-known result by \textit{D. E. Barrett, E. Bedford} and \textit{J. Dadok} [Math. Z. 202, No. 1, 65--82 (1989; Zbl 0651.32007)], one can assume that \(M\) is a Reinhardt domain of \(\mathbb C^n\). After this, the proof consists in showing that: a) there exists \(p \in M\) such that \(G\cdot p\) is biholomorphic to \(\Delta^n\); b) \(M\) cannot be strictly larger than \(G \cdot p\).
