For the classical problem of the calculus of variations with the extra constraint \(g(t,x(t),\dot{x}(t))\leq 0,\) \(t\in [ a,b],\) the authors introduce two suitable notions of pseudoinvexity; one of them turns out to be equivalent to the sufficiency of the Kuhn-Tucker optimality conditions, while the other one is related to the Fritz-John conditions in the same way. A Mond-Weir type dual problem is also studied.
