A compact Riemann surface \(X\), of genus \(g>1\), with automorphism group of size equal to \(84(g-1)\) is called a Hurwitz curve. In the article under review, the authors consider a Hurwitz curve \(X\) with automorphism group \(G = \mathrm{PSL}(2,q)\), the projective special linear group with coefficients in the finite field of order \(q\). In this setting, the authors prove that \(JX\), the Jacobian of \(X\), is not simple. Further, when \(q\) is odd and \(q > 27\), they use the character theory of \(G\) to decompose the Jacobian \(JX\) up to isogeny.
