Let \(x:M^ n\to S^{m-1}\subset E^ m\) be an isometric immersion and define the map \(\tilde x=xx^ t\) from M into the set of \(m\times m\) symmetric matrices and call it the quadric representations of M. In the first part of this article, the author obtains the complete classification of spherical hypersurfaces with 2-type quadric representation. In the second part, the author studies spherical hypersurfaces with 3-type quadric representation. In particular, he gives a characterization and some classification results for minimal hypersurfaces of \(S^{m-1}\) which are mass-symmetric and of 3-type via the quadric representation. As a byproduct he obtains a new characterization of the minimal Cartan hypersurface \(SO(3)/Z_ 2\times Z_ 2\) in \(S^ 4\).
