The work under review studies the orbits on the set of simple subalgebras of a given simple finite-dimensional special Jordan algebra, under the action of its group of automorphisms. The ground field is supposed to be algebraically closed and of characteristic not two. The study of N. Jacobson in which he determined the orbits under the action of the orthogonal group of subalgebras of the Jordan algebra of \(n\times n\) real symmetric matrices in 1987 is mentioned in the work as a precedent and motivating paper. The author also mentions as a technical tool on which its work relies, Racine's description of maximal subalgebras of finite-dimensional special simple Jordan algebras (1974). The work describes the orbits by giving canonical forms and the number of conjugate classes corresponding to a given simple Jordan subalgebra. Canonical realizations of the simple subalgebras are given so that any simple subalgebras has a unique canonical form as defined. For instance if \(A=M_n(F)^{(+)}\) then the simple subalgebras are of one of the forms: (1) \(J=M_m(F)^{(+)}\), (2) \(J=H_m(F)\) or (3) \(J=H_{2m}(F,j)\) and their canonical realizations are respectively: (1) \(\text{diag}(X,\ldots,X,X^t,\ldots,X^t,0,\ldots,0)\) where \(X\in M_m(F)\), (2) \(\text{diag}(X,\ldots,X,0,\ldots,0)\) where \(X\) is any symmetric matrix of order \(m\), and (3) \(\text{diag}(X,\ldots,X,0,\ldots,0)\) where \(X\) is any symplectic matrix of order \(2m\).
