One of the most important equations in the field of mathematical physics is the Cahn-Hilliard equation which describes the phase separation process in binary alloys, and this equation can be encountered in various applications including but not limited to interfacial fluid flow, industry, complex fluids, polymer, soft matter, and many others. In this paper, the authors numerically study their proposed Cahn-Hilliard equation (see Equation (1.1) in the paper) by investigating the high-order numerical approximations to this model problem. To achieve their goal, they propose unconditionally energy-stable discontinuous Galerkin schemes via the integration of both of the mixed discontinuous Galerkin technique for the spatial discretization and the technique of invariant energy quadratization for the time discretization in order to solve their proposed model, where first- and second-order fully discrete discontinuous Galerkin schemes are obtained. The authors provide many numerical experiments with simulations to illustrate the validity of their results. This paper has a high degree of novelty and provides many new interesting results, therefore, I highly recommended this paper for all interested researchers in order to conduct possible related research work based on its results in the near future. Researchers can relate this interesting research topic to the topic of fractional differential equations due to the importance of this topic in various modeling scenarios in natural sciences and engineering.
