Let \(G\) be a finite group, and let \(H\) be a subgroup of \(G\). Then \(H\) is said to be \(s\)-semipermutable in \(G\) if \(PH=HP\) for all Sylow \(p\)-subgroups \(P\) of \(G\) with \((p,|H|)=1\) [\textit{Z. Chen}, J. Southwest Teach. Univ., Ser. B 1987, No. 1, 1-4 (1987; Zbl 0732.20008)]. Let \(H_{\overline sG}\) be the subgroup of \(H\) generated by all subgroups of \(H\) which are \(s\)-semipermutable in \(G\). If \(G\) has a subgroup (subnormal subgroup) \(T\) such that \(HT=G\) and \(H\cap T\leq H_{\overline sG}\), then \(H\) is said to be weakly \(\overline s\)-supplemented (weakly \(s\)-semipermutable) in \(G\). Let \(p\in\pi(G)\) such that \((p-1,|G|)=1\) and suppose that \(N\) is a normal subgroup of \(G\) such that \(G/N\) is \(p\)-nilpotent. If \(P\) is a Sylow \(p\)-subgroup of \(N\) in which every cyclic subgroup of prime order or order 4 (when \(p=2\)) is weakly \(\overline s\)-supplemented in \(G\), then \(G\) is \(p\)-nilpotent. Using this result, the authors prove the following theorem: If \(\mathcal F\) is a saturated formation containing the class of supersoluble groups and \(G\) has a normal subgroup \(N\) such that \(G/N\in\mathcal F\) and each of its cyclic subgroups of prime order or of order 4 (in case that \(p=2\)) is weakly \(s\)-semipermutable in \(G\), then \(G/N\in\mathcal F\). Further results of similar kind are also proved.
