The author studies when a factor module of a direct sum of local or colocal R-modules of finite length is indecomposable, where R is a semiprimary ring with identity. Let \(f:K\to L\) be an R-homomorphism and \(L=\oplus^{n}_{i=1}L_ i\). Then \(f=(f_ i)^ n_{i=1}\) is called infusible if for every \(j=1,...,n\) and every \(h=(h_ i)^ n_ i:\oplus L_ i\to L_ j, hf=\sum^{n}_{i=1}h_ if_ i=0\) implies that \(h_ i\) is not an isomorphism for each \(i=1,...,n.\) Let \(0\to K\to^{f}L\to^{g}M\to 0\) be a nonsplit exact sequence of modules of finite length, where L is a direct sum of local modules. The main result indicates conditions under which the indecomposablity of M and the infusibility of f are equivalent. Particularly, it is so if each \(L_ i\) is local and colocal and each \(f_ i\) is a monomorphism.
