For \(\Phi\), one of several specified classes of inner functions, the problem of characterizing the class of zero sets (and sets of \(\alpha\)- points, \(| \alpha |<1)\) of the radial limit functions of the members of \(\Phi\) is considered. A complete characterization is given for the class of inner functions with radial limits existing at each point of the unit circumference, and for the subclass of this class consisting of Blaschke products with each radial limit of modulus 1 or 0. Partial results are obtained for other classes including the class of all inner functions. The constructions of inner functions with prescribed radial limit zero sets for each of the classes \(\Phi\) all depend on the use of the class of singular inner functions constructed by \textit{A. J. Lohwater} and \textit{G. Piranian} in the solution of this problem for the case when \(\Phi\) is the class of (singular) inner functions with radial limits existing and of modulus 1 or 0 at each point of the unit circumference [Ann. Acad. Sci., Fenn. A I 239, 16 p. (1957; Zbl 0078.065), see especially p. 8-11]. Two results of \textit{O. Frostman} [Lund: Diss. 1935, 118 p. (1935; Zbl 0013.063), see especially pp. 107-109] and [Kungl. Fysiogr. Saellsk. Lund Förhdl. 12, No.15, 169-182 (1942; Zbl 0061.151), pp. 2-4] play a central role in the construction of Blaschke products with specified radial limit zero sets. The first allows passage into the class of Blaschke products from the Lohwater and Piranian class of singular inner functions and the second affords control of the radial limits in taking infinite products. Applications for singular monotone functions are also given.
