In the first part of this paper new proofs and generalizations of known results involving the class number of a finite group are presented. A finite group \(G\) is called an \(F\)-group if for any \(a,b \in G\) with \(C_ G(a) \leq C_ G(b)\), it follows that \(b \in Z(G)\) or \(C_ C(a) = C_ G(b)\). The following theorem, in the second part of the paper, improves a result of N. Ito. Theorem: Let \(G\) be a \(p\)-group and an \(F\)-group. Then \(G\) has an abelian maximal subgroup or \(G/Z(G)\) has exponent \(p\).
