For a highly appreciating review of the first edition see [the author, Statistical methods for data analysis in particle physics. Cham: Springer (2016; Zbl 1333.81007)]. On occasion of an invited lecture the author gave at the CERN-JINR European School of High-Energy Physics he revised and enlarged his book. The chapter entitled ``Convolution and Unfolding'' has been added. An extended discussion about the best linear unbiased estimation, and an introduction to machine learning algorithms including artificial neural networks are further new ingredients to this second edition
