In this very nice paper, the authors study the difficult question of existence of extremal functions for sharp Sobolev inequalities on compact Riemannian manifolds. In the special case \(p=2\), they prove this very nice result that either the saturated remaining constant is extremal, or the sharp Sobolev inequality possesses extremal functions.
