The author presents an analysis to provide a theoretical support to the satisfactory behavior exhibited by the schemes developed by him in collaboration with Staniforth way back in 1992. This scheme is currently being implemented in various numerical weather prediction and climate models. The quasi-monotone, semi-Lagrangian schemes and its quasi-conservative version is clearly stated and analysed. The spatial domain is assumed to be the whole \(\mathbb{R}^2\) in this presentation. The results can be extended to higher dimensions and to bounded domains with suitable boundary conditions.
