Consider a linear partial differential operator \(A = \sum_{|k|\leq m} a_k(x) \partial^k \) with \(a_k \in C^\infty(\Omega)\), \(\Omega\) is an open set in \(\mathbb{R}^n\). The authors study the question of a possibility to find conditions for a distribution \(T \in \mathcal D'(\Omega)\) guaranteing that the equation \(Au = T\) has a solution in a given subclass \(E\) of \(\mathcal D'(\Omega)\). Such conditions are found for the subspaces \(E=L_p(\Omega)\), \(E=L_\infty(\Omega)\) and \(E=H^s(\Omega)\). They are obtained as consequences of some abstract lemmas about properties of ranges of linear operators defined on locally convex spaces.
