This paper deals with the stability of simple solutions of ODEs and the robustness of their bifurcations on the frame of spatial unfoldings. More precisely, the authors study the stability with respect to large wavelength perturbations and the weakly nonlinear behaviour around these solutions, especially when they are close to bifurcations for the ordinary differential equation governing the homogeneous in space and stationary or periodic in time. The main result of the authors concerns homoclinic bifurcations, that is they show that almost homoclinic periodic orbits are always unstable with respect to inhomogeneous perturbations.
