This paper studies the directions of unboundedness of a convex function \(f\) on \(\mathbb R^{n},\) that is, those directions along which \(f\) is unbounded below. This is a well defined notion, since it is proved that \(f\) is unbounded below on a half-line if it is so on some (hence any) translate of such half-line. The set of directions of unboundedness of \(f\) contains the relative interior of the recession cone of \(f.\) Sufficient conditions for an unbounded below function to have a direction of unboundedness are also given.
