The existence of positive solutions to the following problem is proved: \[ Lu=-\lambda f(\cdot, u) \quad\text{in }(0,\omega), \qquad u'(0)=0, \;u(\omega)=0, \] where \(\omega\in(0,+\infty]\) and \(Lu=(Au')'\) with \(A:[0,\omega)\to {\mathbb R}\) and maybe \(A(0)=0\). The results are more general than the ones given by \textit{N. P. Cac, A. M. Fink} and \textit{J. A. Gatica} [Proc. Am. Math. Soc. 123, No. 5, 1393-1398 (1995; Zbl 0826.34021)].
