Coalescence limits of the Painlevé equations are well-known [\textit{P. Painlevé}, C. R. Acad. Sc. Paris, 143, 1111--1117, (1906; JFM 37.0341.04); \textit{E. L. Ince}, Ordinary differential equations. New York: Dover publications (1956; Zbl 0063.02971); \textit{K. Iwasaki}, \textit{H. Kimura}, \textit{S. Shimomura} and \textit{M. Yoshida}, From Gauss to Painlevé, Aspects of Mathematics, E. 16. Braunschweig: Friedr. Vieweg \& Sohn (1991; Zbl 0743.34014)]. Here, the author traces these coalescence limits at the level of the defining manifolds of the Hamiltonian formulation of the Painlevé equations.
