This is the first of a series of four papers by the author, two of which have already appeared [J. Math. Phys. 42, No. 10, 4653-4668 (2001; Zbl 1018.81030); J. Phys. A 34, No. 22, 4673-4682 (2001; Zbl 0990.81051)], devoted to the establishment of a theory of correspondences between discrete and continuum quantum systems, preserving the algebraic structure. This first paper introduces the notion of inductive resolution of \({\mathcal L}_{\infty}\) in order to establish the convergence of a set of vectors \((\psi_n)_n\) in a net of discrete Hilbert spaces \(({\mathcal L}_n)_n\) to a vector in the Hilbert space \({\mathcal L}_{\infty}\), which is to be interpreted as the continuum space. A few examples are given and a theorem is proved, showing that a given net \((\psi_n)_n\) of vectors \(\psi_n\in {\mathcal L}_n\) converges to a given vector \(\psi_\infty\in {\mathcal L}_\infty\) if and only if the norms \(\|\psi_n \|\) are essentially bounded and the coordinates of the vectors \(\psi_n\) converge to the coordinates of \(\psi_\infty\).
