This paper is devoted to the numerical solution of the Cauchy problem for systems of differential-algebraic equations of indices 2 and 3. The problem is examined from the standpoint of the method of extension of solution with respect to a parameter. This allows one to raise the question on the choice of the best solution extension parameter and to transform the initial problem to the best argument, which happens to be the length of the arc measured along the integral curve of the problem.
