The author studies the stability of positive fixed points of nonlinear operators on cones in a Banach space. A crucial tool is the cone metric introduced by \textit{A. C. Thompson} [Proc. Am. Math. Soc. 14, 438-443 (1963; Zbl 0147.34903)]. The last section is concerned with applications to dynamical systems and periodic solutions.
