The topic of the paper is related to J. Peterson's conjecture that each diffuse amenable subalgebra of a free group factor is contained in a unique maximal amenable subalgebra. The main result asserts that every amenable subalgebra of \(M := L(\mathbb{F}_N)\) (where \(2 \leq N < \infty\)) that has a diffuse intersection with the radial masa of \(M\) is actually contained in the radial masa. (Recall that the radial masa of \(M\) is the von Neumann subalgebra of \(M\) generated by the element \(\sum_{g \in \mathbb{F}_N, |g| = 1} u_g\).) The author also proves that the radial masa \(C\) of \(M\) satisfies Peterson's conjecture and a certain structural result for the inclusion \(C \subset L(\mathbb{F}_{N+1})\).
