Random Schrödinger operators were introduced as quantum mechanical models for disordered media in solid state physics. The paper investigates families of such random operators which have the so-called Anderson, or Alloy form. The single site potentials are allowed to change sign. For a certain class of problems, the Wegner estimate is proved. The estimte is valid for all bounded energy intervals and all space dimensions, and stands for a key argument in the existence proof of pure point spectrum for the pertinent Schrödinger operators. In particular, the Wegner estimate implies the existence of the density of states and allows to address the localization issue.
