    Let \(X\) be a real Banach space and \(J: X \to 2^{X^*}\) be the normalized duality mapping. A map \(T: X \to X\) is called hemicontractive if there exists \(k \in (0,1)\) and \(q \in X\) with \(q=Tq\) such that for every \(x\in X\) there exists \(j(x-q) \in J(x-q)\) satisfying \((Tx-Tq, j(x-q)) \leq k \| x-q \|^2\) \(\forall x \in X\). The authors prove that if \(T\) is a hemicontractive map with a fixed point \(x^*\) then for any \(x \in X\), \(\| x-x^*\| \leq (1-k)^{-1} \| x-Tx\|\). Applications to numerical problems are discussed.
