In 1995 the second author [Kodai Math. J., 18, 300--314 (1995; Zbl 0868.30032)] proved a uniqueness theorem for meromorphic functions sharing three values \(0, 1, \infty\) CM (counting multiplicities) and \(N(r, a; f) \neq T(r, f) + S(r, f)\) for \(a \not\in \{0, 1, \infty\}\). Afterwards it was asked to relax the nature of value sharing and to replace the constant \(a\) by a small function \(a = a(z)\). \textit{T. C. Alzahary} and the second author [J. Math. Anal. Appl., 295, 247--257 (2004; Zbl 1056.30028)] used the idea of weighted value sharing to relax the nature of value sharing in the mentioned result of the second author. \textit{T. C. Alzahary} [Complex Variables, Theory Appl., 50, 1105--1124 (2005; Zbl 1097.30026)] replaced the constant \(a\) by a small function \(a = a(z)\). Recently the reviewer and \textit{N. Mandal} [J. Math. Anal. Appl., 340, 780--792 (2008; Zbl 1155.30016)] improved the results of Alzahary. In the paper the authors further improve the results of the reviewer and N. Mandal by reducing the weights of value sharing to finite quantities.
