An \(E\)-ring is a ring \(R\) such that the map \(R\to\text{End}_ \mathbb{Z}(R^ +)\) sending \(x\in R\) to the left multiplication by \(x\) is a ring isomorphism. The author considers torsion-free \(E\)-rings \(R\) of finite rank which are integrally closed in their field of fractions \(F\). Such rings are localizations of the ring \(J\) of algebraic integers in \(F\). The author characterizes the localizations of \(J\) which are \(E\)-rings via a condition on the maximal ideals of \(J\). For number fields \(F\), it is shown that the lattice of subrings of \(F\) containing \(J\) contains an uncountable rigid class of \(E\)-rings all of which are homogeneous of type equal to the type of \(\mathbb{Z}\). The techniques developed provide a scheme for constructing \(E\)-rings of specified rank and residue degree. This control over rank, \(p\)-rank, and ideal structure of \(R\) was absent in previously known examples [\textit{R. Bowshell} and \textit{P. Schultz}, Math.
