The author studies the following situation. The group \(G\) is generated by groups \(L_1,L_2\) such that \(L_i/O_p(L_i)=\overline L_i\) is isomorphic to \(\text{SL}_n(q_i)\), \(\text{Sp}_{2n_i}(q_i)\) or \(G_2(2^{n_i})\) and \(Z_i=\Omega_1(Z(O_p(L_i)))\) is an extension of the trivial module by the natural module for \(\overline L_i\). Further \(R=L_1\cap L_2\) is a \(p\)-group with \(C_{L_i}(Z_i)\leq R\). Finally \(Z_1Z_2\leq O_p(L_i)\) but not normal in \(L_i\) and there is no \(1\neq U\leq R\) which is normal in \(G\). Then the main results are that \(\overline L_i\not\cong G_2(2^{n_i})\) and in case of \(\overline L_i=\text{Sp}_{2n_i}(q_i)\) for some \(i\), then \(p=3\) and \(\overline L_1=\overline L_2\cong\text{SL}_2(q)\). Further the action of \(\overline L_i\) on \(O_p(L_i)\), \(i=1,2\), is determined.
