In this fundamental paper the authors use the spectral decomposition method in order to describe the elastic behaviour of anisotropic bodies. For this purpose, at first the fourth-rank compliance tensor for a cristalline material of the monoclinic system is evaluated in terms of its eigenvalues and corresponding tensors. Then the more special cases of orthorhombic, tetragonal, hexagonal and cubic systems, including isotropic ones, are considered. Additionally, authors study the state of eigenstress for the various systems of anisotropy. It is emphasized, that all spectral decompositions under discussion are particular cases of the spectral decomposition for monoclinic media. The text is supported by clear and meaningful diagrams.
