The solution of the Helmholtz equation, i.e., the simplified version of Maxwell's equations for \(TE\)-polarized electromagnetic wave, is derived for the case of diffraction by metal slots. The authors reduce this diffraction problem to an integral equation with a strongly singular kernel, which is further reduced to an infinite system of linear algebraic equations. Finally, the analytic formula of the solution is represented with respect to generalized Chebyshev polynomials.
