The modular localization (ML) is presented as a new conceptual formulation of causal localization in the setting of local quantum physics. The results of this paper intend to lead to a rethinking of important issues of the Standard Model concerning massive gauge theories and the Higgs mechanism. The basic idea in this formulation is to introduce a new Hilbert space setting for higher spin interactions. The ML refers to ensembles of observables which share the same localization region, in contrast with the usual ideas of quantum mechanics. It is an important framework to describe the interactions which involve higher spin \(s\geq 1\) fields. The operator (BRST) gauge theory setting in Krein space is replaced by a new formulation in terms of string-local fields (SLF) in Hilbert space. It is claimed that SLF approach sheds a new light on the confinement problem and reduces it to a computational problem involving perturbative method. The ML explains also how the particle crossing property arises from the modular wedge-localization. It is suggested that the ML could contribute to the solving of the foundational problem of quantum gravity at the length scale of the Planck distance.
