Let \(M\) be a compact smooth manifold equipped with a fixed Riemannian metric and denote by \(LM\) the free loop space of \(M\). The authors present a refined Čech cohomology, \(\vec H_{lf}(LM;A)\) with coefficients in any Abelian group \(A\), called the fusion cohomology. The fusion cohomology is the homology of a subcomplex of a Čech cochain complex associated to a good cover of \(LM\) by tubes of fixed radius. The main result of this paper is that fusion cohomology is isomorphic to the ordinary cohomology of \(M\) with coefficients in \(A\). This isomorphism is given by an enhanced transgression map of the loop fibration, defined at the cochain level.
