This paper is concerned with the analysis of some problems arising in computational electromagnetism. The analysis developed focuses on properties of explicit generators for scalar and vector finite element spaces. Several numerical simulations are presented which support the thesis that the proposed basis functions can be used in practical applications. In the framework of a square domain, the authors establish algebraic and exponential optimal error estimates for the computation of Maxwell eigenvalues.
