The paper is concerned with the asymptotic behavior of solutions to the first order nonlinear delay differential equation \[ x'\left(t\right)+p(t) \left[ x\left( \tau(t)\right) \right]^{\alpha}=0, \leqno{(1)} \] where \(\alpha>0\), \(\alpha\neq1\), \(p\) and \(\tau\) are continuous functions on \(I=[t_{0},+\infty)\), \(p(t)>0\) on \(I\), \(\tau(t )<t\) on \(I\) and \(\lim_{t\rightarrow+\infty}\tau (t )=+\infty\). Let \(\mathcal{P}\) denote the set of all eventually positive solutions of (1). The structure of the set of solutions that satisfy \(\lim_{t\rightarrow+\infty}x (t) =c>0\) is well known. In this paper, the authors investigate properties of solutions to equation (1) that belong to the subset \[ \mathcal{Z=}\left\{x\in\mathcal{P}:\lim_{t\rightarrow+\infty}x\left(t\right) =0\right\} . \] Since the structure of \(\mathcal{P}\) differs in the sublinear case \(0<\alpha<1\) and the superlinear case \(\alpha>1,\) these two cases are considered separately.
