The 2-category \(\mathbf{SCG}\) of symmetric categorical groups is a 2-dimensional version of the category of abelian groups. So what should be the appropriate notion of abelian 2-category? The author shows that his concept lies essentially between two notions proposed by \textit{M. Dupont} [``Abelian categories in dimension 2'', \url{arXiv:0809.1760}].
