The authors consider the state-dependent impulsive dynamical system \[ \dot x= f_c(x(t)),\quad x(0)= x_0,\quad x(t)\not\in Z,\quad t\in I_{x_0},\tag{1} \] \[ \Delta x(t)= x(t^+)- x(t),\;x(t^+)= x(t)+ f_d(x(t))= \lim_{\varepsilon\to 0} x(t+\varepsilon),\;x(t)\in Z,\tag{2} \] where \(x(t)\in D\subseteq \mathbb{R}^n\), \(I_{x_0}\) is the maximal interval of existence of a solution \(x(t)\) to (1), (2), \(f_c: D\to \mathbb{R}^n\) is continuous with \(f_c(0)= 0\), \(f_d: D\to \mathbb{R}^n\) is continuous, and \(Z\subset D\subseteq \mathbb{R}^n\) is the resetting set. The zero solution \(x(t)\equiv 0\) of (1), (2) is finite-time stable if there exist an open neighbourhood \(N\subseteq D\) of the origin and a function \(T: N\setminus\{0\}\to (0,\infty)\), called the setting-time function, such that hold: {\parindent7mm \begin{itemize}\item[(i)] finite-time convergence: For \(x\in N\setminus\{0\}\), \(s^x(t)\) is defined on \([0, T(x))\), \(s^x(t)\in N\setminus\{0\}\) for all \(t\in [0,T(x))\) and \(\lim_{t\to T(x)} s(x,t)= 0\); \item[(ii)] Lyapunov stability: For every \(\varepsilon> 0\) there exists \(\delta> 0\) such that \({\mathcal L}(0)\subset N\) and for every \(x\in{\mathcal L}(0)\setminus\{0\}\), \(s(t,x)\in{\mathcal L}_\varepsilon(0)\) for all \(t\in [0,T(x))\). \end{itemize}} Sufficient conditions for the finite-time stability of \(x= 0\) are derived.
