Let \((X,d)\) be a metric space and let \(C^0(X)\) denote the class of all continuous \(f:X\to X\). For any such function \(f\) denote by \(CR(f)\) the set of all chain recurrent points of \(f\) and, for \(x\in CR(f)\), let \(CE(x,f)\) stand the set of all \(y\in X\) that are chain equivalent to \(x\) under \(f\). The following is the main result of the paper. Theorem. Let \(T\) be a tree and \(f:T\to T\) a tree map with a chain movable fixed point \(v\). Denote by \(P_v(f)\) the connected component of \(P(f)\) containing \(v\), and put \(\mu=N[\text{End}(P_v(f))-\{v\}]\), \(m=N[\text{End}(CE(v,f))-P_v(f)]\). Then i) if \(CE(v,f)\subseteq P_v(f)\), then \(CE(v,f)=P_v(f)\subseteq \cup\{P_i(f); i=1,...,\mu\}\) and \(f|_{CE(v,f)}\) is a periodic homeomorphism, ii) if \(CE(v,f)\not \subseteq P_v(f)\), there exists \(p\in N_m\) such that \(f^p\) is turbulent and \(h(p)\geq (\log 2)/p\). In addition, the authors consider metric spaces that are not trees, but have an open subset whose closure is a tree.
