An application of Gromov's h-principle to prove the existence of a folded symplectic form on any orientable four-manifold is explained. The author uses the h-principle for folding maps (a theorem of Y. Eliashberg) and the h-principle for symplectic forms on open manifolds (a theorem of M. Gromov) to show that the existence of a stable almost complex structure on an orientable even-dimensional manifold, is a necessary and sufficient condition for the existence of a folded symplectic form.
